Aintitcool.com is one of the early film news and review blogs of its kind, started in 1996 by a man named Harry Knowles as a hobby in Austin, Texas. After an accident, he was bed-ridden so he began searching the internet message boards for upcoming movie news, and then decided to post his research on his new website, which is named after a phrase John Travolta spoke in the movie Broken Arrow.

I didn’t know who Ron Paul was until after I saw the movie Zeitgiest for free online (skip the first five minutes, it’s just redundant stock footage). It’s not your normal conspiracy movie. A lot of the stuff presented has been meticulously researched and much of it posted online here. Did you know the concept of a Son of God and a child born from a virgin is entrenched well into many global cultures and myths? I sure didn’t.

Yo!

Robert RodriguezI’m a 20 year old filmmaker and I’ve been making films since I was fifteen, and my goal is to break into Hollywood before the age of 23 . It’s a notorious age because many filmmakers have become successful at or around the age of 23: Steven Spielberg, Robert Rodriguez, Peter Jackson and many more.

On the road to breaking in, there are many different tried and true routes to take: make a feature and hope it does well at festivals, or take years climbing the ranks and hope to prove studios that you’re finally worthy of helming a big studio picture.

Yout Tube lonelygirl15Yet, in this new internet age, there are now numerous routes to take to get a ticket into Hollywood. There are people who get agents after posting videos on Youtube. There are filmmakers who become underground sensations because they’ve uploaded their films in bit torrent sites. And now there’s a new trend appearing where filmmakers getting recognized from winning several online video contests and making loads of cash.

Sun TzuI hope to prove that breaking is has become an art form in unto itself comparable to Sun Tzu’s The Art of War, where people can follow guidelines and a set of principles that all successful filmmakers instinctively follow. In the coming weeks, I will speak to faculty and interview several filmmakers on the cusp of breaking in and talk to them about their futures in the industry and hopefully start developing the art form.

Of course, there’s no full proof way of breaking in, but there are strategies that can help you along in much the same like way reading Sun Tzu might help you win the war.
